Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to improve body contour and proportion by the removal of excess pockets of fatty tissue using narrow suction tubes through small incisions.
Oftentimes, fat pockets are resistant to exercise and diet. Resistant pockets may be something that is genetically determined, and no amount of diet and exercise will get rid of them. Liposuction is not intended as a weight loss technique, but rather a procedure used to change the shape and contour of the body.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Male Liposuction?
Male liposuction is suitable for individuals who have localized pockets of stubborn fat in the abdomen, flanks, chest, and/or back. Ideal candidates are typically:
- Men who are in good health.
- Men who do not smoke cigarettes.
- Men who have realistic expectations and are not expecting a total body transformation through liposuction alone.
- Men who are committed to a healthy lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet and regular exercise to maintain their results.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The details of a male liposuction procedure vary based on an individual’s unique aesthetic goals and anatomy. However, all patients can expect to be given anesthesia at the start of the procedure.
Once the anesthesia is in effect, small incisions will be made in the treatment area to provide access to the unwanted fat. Fat can then be separated from the surrounding tissue using one of the following techniques:
- Tumescent liposuction – This liposuction method involves the injection of tumescent fluid into the subcutaneous tissue of the body to prepare the fat for extraction.
- Ultrasound-assisted liposuction – With this approach, ultrasound energy is used to liquefy fat cells for easier removal via suction.
- Laser-assisted liposuction – Laser energy can be used to emulsify fat for a gentler extraction process.
- Radiofrequency-assisted liposuction – Fat cells can be liquified with radiofrequency energy before removal.
Once the targeted fat has been processed for removal, it will be suctioned out through a tiny tube called a cannula, which is inserted via tiny incisions placed in inconspicuous areas of the treatment area.
Recovery and Aftercare
Dr. Ronan will provide specific instructions for your post-procedure recovery and care following the procedure. The amount of fat to be removed and the number of treatment sites will influence the length of your male liposuction recovery process. In most cases, patients need about five to seven days of downtime to rest and four to six weeks of restricted physical activity for a complete recovery. However, some patients may return to office setting or work from home environments after just a few days.
Patients will need to wear compression garments for several weeks after male lipo. Doing so will support the healing process and help the skin retract aesthetically to fit your new shape. Compression garments also help to ease post-procedure swelling and bruising. These garments are easily hidden under your everyday clothes.
Vigorous exercise and other intense activities should not be performed until approved by Dr. Ronan. However, light activity, such as walking, is an essential part of an optimal recovery. Gentle movement encourages healthy circulation, which is vital for healing. Be sure to follow Dr. Ronan’s instructions for safe activity levels at every stage of your recovery.
